Beauty and skincare...I'm all about the latest creams and serums as you may have noticed from our skincare posts. Yet, I've never tried derma rollers before. As I read the instructions on the box, I could only liken it to this...roto-tilling my skin. Petunia Skin Care has a 540 Needles 1.0mm Derma Roller, Anti-Aging Hyaluronic Acid Serum, and Revitalize Eye serum that we tested.

Before we get to what poking tiny little holes into my skin feels like, let's take a look at the Revitalize Eye Serum and Face Serum. The Eye Serum ($32.97 for 15ml) contains Vitamin C, Natural Peptide Complex, Matrixyl 3000 and Hyaluronic Acid. It's recommended for dark circles, crows feet, wrinkles, puffiness/bags under the eyes, etc. With the various antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C properties, the serum helps reduce the look of wrinkles, repair damage and firm the skin.

The consistency of the serum is fairly thick but not greasy. I was surprised at how much pumped out with just one pump. Application was easy and the absorption wasn't as quick as my typical eye serum. As it absorbed, I experienced a burning, tingling sensation over my eyes, which was uncomfortable but tolerable. Despite that, the sensation went away as the serum absorbed and all that was left was the sensation of firmer skin around my eyes. I suppose that's the effect of the added caffeine that lifts and dissipates the feeling of heavy and tired eyes.

The Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C serum ($35 for 30ml) is quite similar in consistency and is still decently thick, however doesn't feel greasy at all. It absorbed faster than the eye serum and left the skin feeling silky smooth. A little goes a long way, 2 drops was able to cover my face and neck. Use after your daily moisturizer to help seal in the moisture.

This particular facial serum is different in that it has ferulic acid as well, which is another natural anti-oxidant that helps to promote collage synthesis alongside of Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. It indeed has one of the more stable forms of Vitamin C (ascorbyl phosphate) and is stored correctly, however I was unable to find the percentage of Vitamin C in their formulation. See our post How to Choose a Vitamin C Serum to learn more.

Last but not least is the ever so different Derma Roller. Derma rolling is pretty what I likened it to, roto-tilling. Tiny needles are rolled over your skin to create tiny openings in the skin layer in order to stimulate the production of new tissue while allowing skin products to penetrate deeper into the skin and function better. What's neat about what I read when I was researching Derma Rollers is that it can help with scars, wrinkles, cellulite and stretch mark removal. The needles can be of different lengths.

Petunia Skin care's Premium Derma Roller ($18.77) consists of High Quality Surgical Stainless Steel 1.0 mm 540 Needles and is able to be used for both the face and body. Cleaning is an important part of Derma Roller usage as to prevent infection since we are introducing tiny holes into the skin surface. Proper skin cleaning and Derma Roller cleaning is important for that exact reason. They recommend avoiding usage on skin areas that are already infected or inflamed to prevent irritating the skin more.

Some people may experience a bit of redness after use, which is why they recommend using at night to allow time for the redness to resolve. I tested it on a relative safe spot, my knee, which so happens to have stretch marks. The rolling wasn't a great feeling. It was better than an immunization shot, which I tolerate without issues; it just wasn't comfortable. My skin was a little warm and slightly more pinkish (as you can see from the pictures) after the rolling (10 times vertically/horizontally/diagonally. The one thing I noticed right away was how well my lotions absorbed and stayed after rolling compared to the skin that wasn't rolled. I have yet to notice a change in the appearance of my scars and cellulite.

For the price and what I've experienced thus far, the prices are reasonable. If you're still skeptical, Petunia Skincare has a fantastic manufacturer's guarantee. You can try their products risk-free and test it out yourself because Petunia backs their products with a 90 days 100% Money Back Guarantee!
