We love animals in our household so it's no surprise that our bookshelves are filled with all sorts of animal books. I think it's nice to nurture that aspect of the soul with warm, fuzzies. Perfect for this holiday season and with a fun giveaway for our animal-lover readers is this new release of Barn at Night by Michelle Houts with beautiful illustrations by Jen Betton.

Synopsis:
A beautiful and sweet celebration of a barn at night will help children fall asleep and also learn more about life on a farm. This after-dark journey out to the barn, even on the coldest winter evening, can be a warm and welcoming scene. The young narrator gently details what actually goes on in a barn at night. Who is awake, who is asleep, and who is just making their first appearance in the barn? Smells, sounds and sights are quietly revealed to young readers.

From Feeding Minds Press, we love how this book is part of a project to help promote awareness and understanding of agriculture through education. I don't think that we as a society step back enough to appreciate how important agriculture is to our well-being and in fact, is an integral part of life. We could all use a little more thankfulness and appreciativeness towards those who help put food into the grocery stores.

Barn at Night (Ages 5-7; 32 pages) would be a great book to share with the little ones this holiday season. It seems almost perfect for our midwest winters and is good nourishment for the soul. In particular, I love how it encourages learning and being kind. There's never any harm in a child learning to be helpful. There's a fun activity sheets including puzzles and coloring, an educator's guide (which honestly, as a mom of a preschooler, I'm still going to put to good use).
